U.S. Gun Manufacturers Fueling Gangs in Haiti and the Violence at Our Own Border
While on the recent cross-country road trip, in the Midwest and South in our country, the road signs included lighted billboards, reading, “This is a sign you should buckle up,” obviously promoting wearing seat belts. Some miles after, I started seeing billboards reading, “This is a sign you should get more guns and ammo,” and directing people to local gun stores.
At the same time, while listening to FOX and Patriot radio stations I heard a lot of talk about the violence on the U.S. Mexico border, blasting the Biden administration and progressives for the mess taking place there.
Meanwhile, on a seemingly different planet, NPR and BBC were airing interviews with Mexican officials about the crisis of Mexican drug cartels creating violence and havoc at the U.S. border. In addition, there was reporting on the intense chaos and violence in Haiti, where gangs have overrun the government and society. And HERE’s the DEAL, the vast majority of guns used by the Haitian gangs and the Mexican drug lords come from U.S. drug manufacturers. In one of the interviews, a Mexican official was almost begging American gun makers to stop the flow of weapons. In fact, almost unbelievably, it turns out that three of the gun manufacturers supplying the greatest numbers of illegal guns to Haitian gangs were subjects of a lawsuit Mexico filed against U.S. gun manufacturers. Mexico has accused the gunmakers — including Glock, Smith & Wesson, and Colt — of violating laws including exporting guns without a license.
Haiti has no gun manufacturing capacity and Mexico has only one gun store. Meanwhile, there are literally thousands just over the U.S. border and a flood of weapons being shipped illegally into Mexico.
Recently, In Michigan, a mother was convicted of manslaughter for allowing her troubled son to get possession of a gun that he later used to shoot up a school. If she was held accountable shouldn’t the gun manufacturers arming violent gangs and drug dealers be held accountable?
Do you feel safer with all those American guns out there in this country, at the border and around the world? I sure don’t. This is further evidence of a collective insanity of humanity that needs some deep healing.
Here’s to a turn around.
