Hi Readers,
I’ve been tracking some positive developments for the planet and thought you might like a little injection of good news. Below are several hopeful and encouraging updates.
Wolves Make a Strong Comeback in California
In the summer of 1924 a government hunter trapped, shot and killed the last known gray wolf in California. After an 87-year absence, in 2011 a young male wolf walked across the border from Oregon. By 2015, the first new wolf pack had re-established, in Siskiyou County. By 2019, there were seven wolf packs in California. According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, at this time there are at least are at least 65 wild wolves and the population is thriving and growing.
Ancient Bird, Once Thought Extinct, Makes A Comeback After 300 Years
After centuries of decline, concerted conservation efforts have led to a remarkable resurgence of the Northern Bald Ibis in Europe. The Ibis, with its distinctive curved beak and glossy feathering, was once plentiful across three continents. It seemed to have held symbolic significance for some ancient cultures and was the image of a hieroglyph symbolizing "spirit." However, it had been extinct in Europe for over 300 years.
Though eradicated over much of its historic range, a holdout population of wild Ibis’ survived in Morocco. Conservation efforts enabled that population to grow from 59 mating pairs to over 500 individuals. In 2004 efforts began to reintroduce these birds to southern Europe. This includes helping the captive-raised chicks learn the migration routes by following a small aircraft. The population has been reproducing since 2011 and just topped 200 individuals.
Rhinos Rebounding in Northern India
Since 2016, poaching of one-horned rhinoceroses in India’s Assam state has fallen 86% after a change in government brought determined action to protect them. By expanding protected areas and bolstering ranger patrols, the steady but slow growth in the number of rhinos since protections began in the 1960s has now accelerated to the point where 3,000 of the magnificent animals now grace the Assam savannah.
Record Sea Turtle Nesting in the Mediterranean
From Spain in the west to Cyprus in the east, the Mediterranean has witnessed a record rise in sea turtle nesting – testimony to the painstaking efforts of environmentalists determined to save an ancient mariner that not that long ago was on the verge of extinction. In Greece, which hosts 60% of Caretta caretta species’ nests, the rebound has been extraordinary: from an average of 5,000 to 7,000 nests per year, to over 10,000 nests the last two years.
Sea Otters Find a Way!
Sea otters were wiped out in Oregon due to overhunting for their pelts. Environmentalists have been studying the potential to do reintroduction into the region. In the meantime, two sea otters just showed up off the Oregon coast in a place they have not been seen since the early 1900s!
Huge New Marine Protected Area
A massive new marine protected area (MPA) has been established in the eastern Atlantic off the coast of the Azores in Portugal. Covering 287,000 square kilometers of ocean makes it the largest MPA network in the North Atlantic—the size of Virginia and Georgia combined. Fishing and other extractive activities will either be restricted or banned in the area.
The Azores, a chain of nine volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean are surrounded by deep-sea corals, whales, dolphins, sharks, manta rays, fish, and unique hydrothermal vent ecosystems—much of which is now protected.
Way to go Mother Earth!
Christ during Christmas – Online Class
I’ll be once again offering my Christ During Christmas online course. In this class we explore the meaning, impact, and implications of Christ consciousness and how that relates to and differs from Jesus. We will explore Bible scriptures, Unity teachings, and our own innate wisdom and generative collective knowledge. Participants will experientially engage their personal beliefs about “Jesus Christ”, Christ consciousness and how intentionally engaging and evolving our thinking about these powerful concepts can forward our own spiritual awakening and our journey through this human life.
Here is a short video describing this class (note, the stated Nov. start date was from a previous class).

Life with Livvy – Agility as Therapy
I hear from many of you that you enjoy the vids of Olive’s and my exploits in agility so I’ll keep popping these in every now and then.
I can tell you that as a bit of a workaholic and a person who works on, and think about, some pretty weighty topics a lot of the time running agility with Olive (AKA Livvy Lane) has become genuine therapy. Having a fun, engaging hobby is one of the better self-care practices during challenging times.
At our last trial Team Olive had amazing success, earning qualifying scores in all six events on Friday and all five events on Saturday (back-to-back perfect days is a first for us). And, we got the final points needed to qualify for the AKC National Agility Championships next March! She is the best partner and friend.
Here’s a vid of one of our Standard Premier winning runs.

Much love,
