I absolutely agree that endless GDP growth needs to stop and that we need to find another way of structuring the economy. That's undeniable. But what Trump is doing is the very worst way to go about that possible.
Forcing a change is definitely a silver lining is all this, but considering that any economic contraction hurts the poorest people the most it's going too far to say it's a good thing.
Yes, this gives us an opportunity to build something better in the future. But at a terrible cost. Trump's tariffs are not only threatening the existence of entire industries, they will utterly devastate the third world which is reliant upon exports and their purchasing power with the US dollar to buy the basics for their economy (like oil).
